Atikokan Taxes Going Up 8.5%

Atikokan residents will be paying more in taxes.
Council has passed a budget with the tax bill going up 8.5% after the reduction in the education rate is factored in.
Mayor Dennis Brown says it was a struggle from the word ‘go’ this time around.
Brown says tax rates will also be going up 6% for both the Industrial and Commercial sectors.
There will be virtually no capital work, with the exception to upgrades to the Water Treatment Plant.
On the plus side, user fees will not be going up.
