Times are getting tougher in Atikokan.
Council has trimmed its budget shortfall to $785,000 from $3 million but has had to cut almost all capital work in the process.
Mayor Dennis Brown says the situation is not good and they can’t afford a substantial tax increase.
As a result, Brown warns that huge cuts have to be made.
Council is asking all department heads to cut an additional 10 to 15% from their budgets.
Brown says permanent layoffs are also being looked at but only as a last resort.
