Attempted Murder Charges Laid Against Dryden Man

A Dryden man has been charged with attempted murder in the aftermath of a massive police search early Wednesday morning. Police have filed charges of Attempt Murder and Break and Enter to a Dwelling with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence against 38 year old Derek John Kenny. In a press release, Dryden Police Service says police were called to an Arthur Street residence in the early morning hours after a neighbor reported a 34 year old woman had been stabbed by a male. The victim sustained serious injuries to her hands and was transported to hospital while the man had fled on foot. DPS officers, OPP officers, the OPP Emergency Response Team, OPP Canine and OPP Criminal Investigations Unit were all involved in the search for Kenny. Kenny was located in his business on King Street but for public and officer safety reasons, police established containment of the building and area. A four block radius was shut down to establish a perimeter to ensure the safety of the public and to allow police to safely resolve the situation to take KENNY into custody. Just after 9:00 am, 6 hours after the event began; KENNY exited the building and was arrested by members of the Emergency Response Unit without any further incident or injury. KENNY remains in custody and has been charged with Attempt Murder and Break and Enter to a Dwelling with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence under the Criminal Code. KENNY will remain in custody pending a Bail Hearing at a later date. The Dryden Police Service and the OPP Forensic Identification Services are continuing the investigation.
