The design of the new Water Treatment Plant in Sioux Lookout has received national recognition.
The town and JR Cousin Consultants have received the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies Award of Excellence for the construction of the Water and Wastewater Treatment Station.
The project was spurred by the fact almost 19% of the water treated was being rejected as part of the filtering process.
That represents about 370,000 gallons of potable water being sent to the Wastewater Treatment Plant, reducing the capacity of the Sewage Plant.
The new station is now looking at a minimal 4.7% rate.
The life of the system will be extended by several years as a result of the changes.
