Back To Work Debate To Resume Sunday

College classes could resume Tuesday now that legislation to get college faculty back to work has passed second reading.

Speaking in the Legislature today, Conservative Post-Secondary Education Critic Lorne Coe urges fellow legislators to pass the bill in its final reading on Sunday to end the 5-week-long faculty strike.

“We want to see the 500,000 students impacted by this disptue back in the classroom,” Coe argues.

Labour Minister Kevin Flynn arguing the Legislature shouldn’t allow colleges to remain closed any longer.

“It would be irresponsible of us to ignore the significant educational, financial, and personal impacts that this is having on students in this province,” Flynn says.

However, NDP Leader Andrea Horwath continues to fight against the bill to force teachers back to work.

“Voting against this bill is the right thing to do,” she argues, “Standing up against unstable and precarious work is the right thing to do.”

The legislature is scheduled for third and final reading of the bill, starting at 1:00 on Sunday. (File Photo)
