Reports of scams and fraud continue to pour in, with more and more cases emerging on a daily basis.
Denise Szachury is the Community Services Officer with the Dryden Police Service and she says unfortunately they have seen too many people fall for fraudulent phone calls or e-mails.
Szachury is trying to help protect potential victims by providing tips and information.
She says some of the more popular scams in the area are the Grandparents scam where a so-called family member is in trouble and needs a financial bailout or Canada Revenue Agency phone calls stating that you owe money.
Szachury notes they have also been receiving reports of e-mails from financial institutions asking for personal information.
She stresses never give out personal or banking information on-line or over the phone to someone you don’t know.
Szachury adds if you receive a call about winning a prize and don’t remember entering than you don’t want to divulge any information.
She says tips are available at www.getcybersafe.ca or www.canada.ca
Szachury says they have valuable resources and information available at the Dryden Police Detachment.
