Forest Fire Season Financial Recap

The final numbers are still being crunched but preliminary figures released by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry indicate it was an average year financially to fight forest fires in Ontario.

At the end of October, the Ministry spent more than $118-million on firefighting activity within the province.

In previous years, costs have ranged from $75-million to $231-million.

The totals include money directly related to fire suppression, crews, aircraft as well as planning and preparedness.

The province is expecting to recover $1.9-million in costs from sending personnel and equipment to assist in other provinces and the United States.
