Parks Canada is keeping backpackers out of the bush in Pukaskwa National Park on Lake Superior following a bear attack on a camper.
The backcountry is closed following an incident Friday in which a visitor was injured by an adult black bear.
Park Spokesperson Robin Heron says all registered visitors were evacuated, and staff are patrolling the backcountry for unregistered visitors.
A Michigan tourist suffered lacerations and was transported by ambulance to Marathon hospital where she was treated and released.
Officials are still searching for the bruin and note the tourist didn’t do anything to provoke an attack.
It’s the first bear attack in the Northern Ontario Park.
