Ontario’s chief Medical Officer of Health is touring the Kenora and Rainy River Districts this week, meeting with officials from the Northwestern Health Unit.
Dr. Sheila Basur says one of the issues raised in meetings this week is whether the disease, blastomicosis, should be considered a reportable illness.
Blasto is found mainly in the Lake of the Woods area, but can be deadly.
Basur says the verdict on the making the disease reportable is still out.
N006 Q: …will tell. (20 secs.)
Basur says the Northwestern Health Unit has been doing a good job monitoring cases of Blasto, but admits they would like more help from the province.
