This is the time of year when the snow melts and folks stumble on discarded needles.
The Northwestern Health Unit says there’s a number of steps to safe needle disposal.
You are urged to use gloves and tongs and place the needles in a hard-sided plastic container with a tight seal.
The public should never put the cap back on a needle and should wash their hands with soap and water after picking one up.
All needles should be returned to local Health Unit offices.
You should never put needles down the toilet, in drains or in the garbage.
Officials stress picking up needles incorrectly can lead to exposure of Tetanus, Hepatitis C and HIV.
