“Be Safe” App Launched In Kenora-Rainy River Districts

A way for local youth in crisis to get immediate help.

The Kenora Rainy River Districts Youth Suicide Prevention Steering Committee has launched the “Be Safe” app for mobile devices.

Ashley Hendy says the app is available for those living in Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Red Lake, Kenora and Fort Frances.

Hendy says it provides a number of different resources and support services.

It contains a personal safety plan, with reminders of unique coping strategies and a crisis plan with personal and medical information.

It’s available 24/7 and can support decision making during a crisis involving suicidal ideas, self-harm, alcohol or drug addiction and problem gambling.

The app was originally developed by an agency called Mind your Mind out of Southern Ontario.

The agency is a youth driven one that works specifically around mental health.

The free app can be downloaded on any apple or android device.

A number of regional partners were involved in the local initiative.
