Cancer Care Ontario predicts seniors, aged 60 to 79, will account for more than half of all new cases of cancer in 2018.
It also foreshadows the same age group accounting for half of all cancer deaths.
However, Director of Surveillance Dr. Prithwish De says the good news is that the likelihood of seniors beating cancer has improved over the last thirty years.
He encourages regular screening so any necessary treatment can be done as early as possible.
De says half of all cancers are preventable by making lifestyle changes like quitting smoking, eating healthier and limiting exposure to the sun.
The Cancer Care Ontario report indicates 90,000 new cases expected to be diagnosed this year.
