Bear Attacks Fire Fighter

There are a number of hazards in the bush for Ministry of Natural Resources fire fighers, including wildlife.

Earlier this week, an M.N.R. fire fighter was bitten by a bear northeast of Pickle Lake.

Yolanta Kowalski is a spokesperson for the M.N.R.’s Bear
Wise program and says the fire fighter was bitten early Wednesday morning at a fire camp.

N003 Q: …yesterday. (23 secs.)

Kowalski says fire fighters often see bears in the bush, but this is the first time that she can recollect that a bear has actually bitten anyone.
