Encounters with bears have been a common occurance in Northwestern Ontario this summer and now the Ministry of Natural Resources is warning Eastern Ontario residents about hungry black bears.
It says the animals are wandering into populated areas in search of food.
The warning comes as a Ministry-appointed Committee puts the finishing touches on a draft version of a report on nuisance bears.
It could lead to the reinstatement of the Spring Bear Hunt in Ontario.
The report is expected to land on the desk of Natural Resources Minister Jerry Ouellette this summer.
Fort Frances Mayor Glen Witherspoon is on the panel and has been lobbying for the return of the hunt.
Witherspoon can’t comment on the report’s specifics.
