Bear Reports in Ignace

A new Provincial Protocol has made it easier for Officials in Ignace to track the number of Nuisance Bear reports.
Despite some talk that bear troubles are at an all-time high, Loren Clark, the Ignace Area MNR Supervisor says the number of reports are similar to past years.
Clark says a total of 56 calls have been received in the area however no bears have been trapped in the community.
There have been no reports of bears causing damage this year.
Clark says for the most part the new Protocol is working, however he notes some people say they are having difficulties getting through to the new Bear Hotline.
He adds residents can do their part by removing bird feeders and by not putting garbage out early.
