Bears on the prowl in Kenora

Wildlife officials in Kenora predict its going to be a bad fall for nuisance bears.

So far Kenora’s animal control officers have received over
150 complaints about nuisance bears and have tranquilized two of them and trapped 15 others.

Wildlife biologist with the MNR, Norm Hissa says a bad berry crop this summer means bears have moved into town a lot earlier than usual looking for food.

He says bears are not only moving into closer contact with human, but are also getting a lot bigger, because of the availability of food in the city.
