The Federal Government is embarking on creating the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Inquiry.
The Liberals are out with details on the first phase of their plan.
Minister of Status For Women and Thunder Bay MP Patty Hajdu wants to see feedback from family members of loved ones lost, front line workers dealing with women going through violent situations and First Nations groups and communities.
She adds the inquiry is a rallying cry as the issue impacts all Canadians.
The government believes the consultations will last about one to two years.
Meantime, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is pledging more.
He says there’s no relationship more important to him than that between the federal government and First Nations.
Trudeau tells the Assembly of First Nations the 2% financial cap on programs for aboriginal communities will be lifted.
He notes that limit has been in place for 20-years and doesn’t address changing times.
Trudeau is also promising to implement the full recommendations from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and makes significant investments in First Nations education.
