Dryden Council is scheduled to meet next Monday to begin the process of filling a vacant council seat.
Mel Fisher handed in his resignation last week.
Acting Clerk Debra Kincaid says council can either appoint someone or hold a byelection.
Kincaid says the rules surrounding appointments are vague.
She says the city can appoint any member of the public, someone who has previously held office or solicit applications.
Another option is going back to the results of the May byelection and selecting the runner-up to Sid Wintle.
Former Police Chief Shayne MacKinnon finished second and already has expressed an interest in replacing Fisher.
The City has 60-days after September 17th to find a replacement.
