The goal at the start of the season for the Dryden Eagles Girls High School Hockey team was All-Ontario gold.
That dream is alive and well!
Despite suffering a hard fought 5-2 loss and losing the NWOSSA championship in two games to Fort Frances, the Eagles still clinched a berth in the provincial championship as number two seed.
The coaches knew before Game 2 Thursday but no one else did that a Southern Ontario team had dropped out of the championship in Kenora.
After the gut wrenching loss in Fort Frances, the girls sorrows quickly turned into tears of joy when they learned they had been given a second chance.
On the ice, the Muskies exploded for three goals in the opening six minutes and that was the difference in their 5-2 victory.
Dryden battled back with powerplay goals from Rachel Getson and Sydney Allen, but an empty net goal iced gold for the Muskies for the second straight year.
Dryden outshot Fort Frances 46-41.
