Blockade Planned in Far North

More than two dozen workers are prepared to
set up a blockade at a Cliffs Natural Resources work camp in the
Ring of Fire as they continue to protest what they say are poor
conditions at the site.
The aboriginal and non-aboriginal employees of Cliffs who do
various jobs at the mining camp walked out on Friday, citing
concerns over wages, benefits and safety.
Camp worker Jesse Nadon said Monday that they’re worried that
replacement workers are being called in.
Cliffs said Monday that no workers are being replaced, and as far
as the company’s concerned, they haven’t even officially left.
Nadon has said Cliffs told the workers that they’d be categorized
as “helpers,” and after tax, all camp workers would make only $140
per day as take-home pay.
The workers’ shifts are generally 12-14 hours long.
