There’s plenty of hope within the Liberal party.
Federal Interim Liberal Leader Bob Rae rallied the troops at a luncheon in Dryden yesterday afternoon.
Rae stressed a lot has changed since the Grits dismal showing in the last election.
He says they have a lot of new members and supporters.
Almost 300,000 have signed up to choose the Liberal party’s next leader.
Rae says there’s plenty of hope with a new leader and a new platform on the horizon.
Rae wouldn’t publicly say who he’s endorsing in the leadership race.
He credits the Liberal’s rejuvenation can be credited to an aggressive recruitment drive and strengthening individual ridings.
Yesterday’s luncheon was hosted by Kenora Riding Association President and former MP Roger Valley.
Rae also dropped the puck yesterday at the Lac Seul-Sandy Lake game and he toured the Dryden Native Friendship Centre.
Meantime, Liberal MP Marc Garneau, despite running a “solid
second” in the federal Liberal leadership race, has ended his campaign and thrown his support behind front-runner Justin Trudeau.
Garneau says he made the decision after internal polling made it clear to him that despite his status in second place, winning would be impossible given Trudeau’s lead.
He says he’ll continue to be a loyal Liberal soldier.
The decision leaves seven candidates in the running.
Voting for the Liberal leadership will be conducted online and by phone early next month, with the winner to be announced on April 14.
