BREAKING: Postal Strike Looming, No Northwestern Locations Announced

With the deadline for a possible postal strike looming, it doesn’t appear Northwestern Ontario’s mail delivery will be affected if last-minute talks fall through.

Postal workers are preparing to strike if the Canadian Union of Postal Workers can’t reach a deal with Canada Post by 12:01 Monday morning.

The dispute revolves around issues like job security, ending forced overtime, and health and safety.

A statement released Saturday claims Canada Post responded to the union’s proposals but refused to meet CUPW’s demands on those issues.

CUPW has announced if they can’t agree on a new contract, rotating strikes will happen in Halifax, Edmonton, Victoria, and Windsor.

It says any strikes would be carried out for 24 hours at a time at each location, starting at 12:01 Monday morning local time in Edmonton, Windsor, and Victoria, and 1:01 AM in Halifax.

However, it says mail would still be delivered, although there could be delays. (File Photo)
