Provincial Police have released the name of the man, who is now back in custody, who escaped during a police transfer on Friday afternoon in Kenora.
The man fled while officers were transporting several people from the Kenora Courthouse to the District Jail.
The accused crossed the ice making his way to Treaty Island where he was arrested about an hour later.
OPP say 31-year-old Shawn General of Six Nations, Ontario now faces a charge of escaping lawful custody.
