Minister of Northern Development and Mines Michael Gravelle says he expects it’s going to be a very good budget for Northwestern Ontario.
The provincial budget is set to be delivered on Thursday.
Gravelle says, now that transportation spending will be funnelled through selling majority stake in Hydro One and a hike in the beer tax, he’s hopeful there’s additional infrastructure dollars available for the Northern Highways Program.
Gravelle adds the upcoming budget will make the Northern Industrial Electricity Rate Program permanent.
The program helps keep electricity bills low for industrial consumers, so northern Ontario stays competitive.
Natural Resources Minister Bill Mauro says he’s anticipating a few significant pieces in the budget specifically for forestry initiative
