It’s becoming a seasonal tradition that residents of Kashechewan don’t want to see.
For the fourth straight year the remote northern First Nation is under an evacuation order due to spring flooding.
The Albany River is once again rising and is threatening the community.
Some 600-residents are being taken to Kapuskasing, Hearst and Smooth Rock Falls.
Chief Derek Stephen says the plan is to have all 1,900 residents leave at different stages in the next week or so.
Stephan notes the dike protecting the community is inadequate and is close to collapsing.
He has stated the community spent $21-million on the evacuation last year as well as millions more on repairs.
