Building A Gravel Road Near Ignace Costs Thunder Bay Man

A Thunder Bay man has been slapped with a $5,000 fine for building a road on Crown land northeast of Ignace.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says James Loney was fined after a gravel road was built through Crown land to access some private lots on Sowden Lake.

Court heard that between September 2014 and December 2015, Loney excavated gravel from a pit on provincial property and disturbed the shoreline by his camp by removing some boulders.

He also filled the area with gravel and sand to create a beach.
