Busy Tuesday On The National Campaign Trail

A major election promise from the Prime Minister.

Stephen Harper says a re-elected Conservative government would introduce a new, permanent Home Renovation Tax Credit.

It was originally established by the Harper Government in 2009 as a temporary measure and was very successful.

They say about one in every three households took advantage of the program.

Harper says the government would make this tax credit available each year for substantial home renovation expenses between $1,000 and $5,000.

He adds it will also result in job growth.

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau was also campaigning in the Toronto area.

Trudeau was quick to dispute claims by Stephen Harper that the Conservative plan has been working for Canadians.

He says low and middle income families haven’t had a real raise in 35-years.

Trudeau says the Harper government is out of touch, out of steam and out of ideas.

He adds the Liberal’s plans to grow the economic starts by strengthening the middle class.

Trudeau adds their plan would include stopping children benefit cheque’s heading to Canada’s most wealthy.

NDP leader Tom Mulcair was in Montreal today for his first official campaign stop.

Mulcair says his pledge to raise the corporate tax rate for large industries will still be below the average rates of the Conservatives and Liberals.

He says they will be providing quality child care at maximum values by raising some money through a tax increase for Canada’s largest corporations.

Mulcair adds his party will also be creating new, well paying jobs.
