Busy Year At ELA; Funding Coming Today

Another year of scientific research is coming to a close at the Experimental Lakes Area, west of Vermilion Bay.

50-years of studies have now been carried out at the world famous freshwater laboratory.

Emilie Ferguson updated Dryden Rotary members Wednesday on 2018 activities.

Ferguson stated that major studies were conducted on oil spills and how they impact the ecosystem, freshwater systems and the land.

Researchers also looked at best practices for cleaning-up potential oil spills.

Ferguson adds a Selenium project and its impact on the ecosystem was also held.

Selenium is a mineral found in the soil that naturally appears in water and some foods.

Meantime, a major funding announcement for the ELA will be made in Kenora Thursday morning at 11 o’clock.
