Calls To Expand Northwestern Ontario Water Route

Several groups are continuing their work to expand a Canadian Heritage River designation for an historic water route between Thunder Bay and Lake of the Woods.
It’s now in place for an area between Pigeon River and Lac La Croix.
President of the Rainy Lake Conservancy Stephen Challais says their proposal is a little unique because they are designating an international waterway so there will be international ramifications if it goes through which would require input from around the world.
Challais adds that by extending it, there could be some tourism benefits.
The groups have a brief they’re submitting to Parks Canada for review as part of the process.
