Canada Post Rotating Strikes Continue

Federal Labour Minister Patty Hajdu says the government isn’t looking at back-to-work legislation at this time in the on-going Canada Post labour dispute.

She admits it is a tool that’s always in their toolbox, but notes negotiations are on-going.

Hajdu says so far citizens and companies can manage during the rotating strikes.

Hajdu is encouraging both sides to stay at the bargaining table and remain flexible.

The Thunder Bay-Superior North MPP says she will watch the situation closely.

Meantime, more than 1,600 postal workers in Ontario are manning pickets Monday morning.

Nine cities including London and Barrie are the latest to be hit by rotating strikes by members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers.

The Scarborough distribution centre is also impacted today.

Workers in six communities in Newfoundland-Labrador are also off the job.

The union’s job action to back contract demands is now entering its third week.
