Canadian Cancer Society Pleased With Progress In Smoking Rates

It’s hoped new smoking laws will stop non smokers from taking up the habit and encourage smokers to quit.

That’s the belief of the Canadian Cancer Society, noting they have seen some improvements over the year.

Senior Policy Analyst Rob Cunningham says nationally, 19% of the population are smokers, as compared in 1965, when the rate was 50%.

Cunningham says they are making progress, but notes a lot of work remains.

Recent laws banned smoking in public places and local municipalities are now being urged to ban smoking on community beaches.
