Canadian Man Returns from Worldwide Walk

A Canadian man has become a worldwide inspiration and he stopped in Dryden Wednesday to tell his story to Rotary members.
Montreal’s Jean Beliveau has spent the past 11-years walking around the world, pushing a 50-kilo buggy and benefiting from the generosity of others for a place to stay and a bite to eat.
Beliveau has stayed with some 1,600 people and even accepted accommodation in nine jail cells.
Beliveau lost his job and was on the brink of suicide when he decided to embark on the walk and he vowed to travel the world to promote peace and non-violence for the benefit of children.
He left with barely a penny to his name and says he learned to believe in people.
Beliveau has walked across 64-countries and logged over 75,000 kilometres.
He met four Nobel Peace Prize winners including Nelson Mandela.
What’s lost in the story is that his wife has been sitting at home waiting for him to return.
He has also never met his two grandchildren.
He will have that opportunity on October 16th.
