Canadian Premiers Calling For National Energy Plan

A Northwestern Ontario MP is supporting provincial calls for a National Energy Strategy.
Thunder Bay-Superior North member Bruce Hyer says a national plan is an important step forward and notes Canada is the only developed country in the world that has no energy strategy.
The Green Party MP says a policy would support the sustainable development of Canadian resources with an eye to conservation.
Hyer says any plan should include a price on carbon that would see every penny returned directly to Canadian citizens.
He notes a strategy is key to ensuring that our non-renewable sources are used wisely, while at the same time taking climate disruption seriously.
Hyer adds it makes no sense that we send our oil overseas for discounted prices and pay through our teeth for oil from other countries.
