Canfield Weighs In On New OPP Model

Local municipalities shouldn’t expect a big drop in their policing costs next year.
A new OPP costing formula goes into effect in 2015, but it’s going to be phased in over five years.
President of the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association Dave Canfield says initially there won’t be much of a change.
Canfield says 18 dollars is the maximum it can go down or up and each year it increases until the 5 year phase in when you hit the new formula.
The OPP will be touring the region later this month explaining to municipalities how the new costing formula will work.
