Several questions and some skepticism follow the proposed Casino,
Hotel and Convention Centre.
Some 60 Dryden Business Owners and interested individuals attended a
public meeting Tuesday to hear details about the project.
Merel Burkholder represents Northern Youth Programs and says a number
of issues need to be clarified.
Social issues, the cloudy future of gambling and skepticism about
attracting tourists are just some of the concerns.
Some on Council are also wondering that local bingo’s and charity lotteries will suffer with a Casino as well as the added costs of policing and support services.
However, several others appear to be excitied about the prospects of a Gaming facility and look at it as a chance to attract new visitors and help the local economy.
Mayor Anne Krassilowsky says it will take some time to review all the
pros and cons, but notes the taxpayers will play a major role in their final decision.
The Ontario Government still has not indicated if it plans to build or license
more Casino’s in the Province.
