Catholic Board Looking For Changes To Transportation Funding

A call is being made to review the funding formula for student transportation.

The Kenora Catholic District School Board, which manages St. John’s school in Red Lake, says the current formula falls short of the actual cost of transportation.

Director of Education Phyllis Eikre says they have had to find savings from other areas to pay for travel.

Eikre notes the recent Auditor’s report raised questions about funding school bus services and made 15 recommendations to the Ministry of Education.

She’s asking the province to implement those recommendations.

Eikre says it’s clear school bus service in the north costs more.
