Catholic Board Looks At Absenteeism Rates

Skipping out of class is not uncommon at elementary schools within the Northwest Catholic School District.

According to 2013-2014 figures, the Catholic Board recorded a 12.6% persistent absenteeism rate.

That’s the 32nd highest among Ontario school boards.

The provincial average is 12.8%.

St. Patrick’s in Atikokan had the highest local rate at 27%, while St. Joseph’s in Dryden had the most committed group of students at 9.7%

The persistent absenteeism rate at Sacred Heart in Sioux Lookout was 13.7%

For students in Fort Frances; St. Michaels 11.5% and St. Frances 9.8%

Elementary students in the Thunder Bay region had the highest rates of persistent absenteeism in northern Ontario at 21.6%.
