For the first time ever, Dryden Council has a set of rules to abide by when it comes to accountability and transparency.
Council has endorsed a new Code of Conduct policy.
Although municipal staff have been under a certain set of rules since 2004, Council hasn’t had anything on paper regarding accountability and transparency.
Clerk Debra Kincaid has stated it’s important to have such a policy in place as it puts everything on the table.
She notes the policy will ensure Council is open and up front with the community and staff.
The next step is appointing an Integrity Commissioner to investigate complaints.
Kincaid has noted that the cost to the City is minimal, with an extra expense of $500-$600 as a worst case scenario.
She notes Sioux Lookout and Kenora have never had an inquiry since going with an Integrity Commission.
