CBC ‘National’ To Highlight Local Hockey Academy

CBC’s ‘The National’ will showcase a major initiative being offered by the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board. Peter Mansbridge will report on the new Hockey Academy being offered in Dryden, Sioux Lookout and Kenora. Public School Board Director of Education Sean Monteith says they were originally contacted in December after CBC learned about the Board and how it’s supporting children and families. Monteith says the program has taken a life of its own and notes they plan to expand it next year. He adds the initiative has resulted in improved attendance and enhanced academic success. Monteith says students love the program and they have found kids have become more confident after taking the course. The National segment is scheduled to air January 18th.
