The 2016 census will be carried out by Statistics Canada starting in May.
The census collects demographic information on every man, woman and child living in the country.
Spokesperson Martine Lamontagne says each household will receive either a long-form or short-form questionnaire.
One in four will receive the re-instated long-form census.
Lamontagne stresses the census is an important tool for communities to plan for schools, housing, public transportation and emergency services.
It’s carried out every five years.
