The Ontario Vice-President of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union says the Provincial Government must act now and appoint a Jobs Commissioner to examine how to save Northern Ontario forestry jobs.
Bob Huget says this recommendation is nothing new and he’s frustrated the Government hasn’t been acted on it.
Huget says a Commissioner would meet with all stakeholders to discuss measures to make Mills more viable and would report directly to the Premier.
Meantime, Huget says CEP is still working with Domtar to determine the exact date of the paper machine shutdown and whether a package will be offered to laid off workers.
