Water Meters Appear to be Imminent

The water meter issue refuses to go down the drain.
Dryden Council will be asked next Monday to support the implementation of full water metering by the end of 2010.
Director of Public Works and Engineering Mike Louttit says they need to act now if they hope to receive funds to replace the 40-year-old Sewage Treatment Plant.
Louttit says they need to show the Government they are taking serious action on water conservation.
He notes water meters are widely accepted as the best way to conserve water.
Currently, the Province doesn’t finance water meters which means water users would be responsible for the implementation costs.
Louttit says staff are looking into all options to keep costs down.
