The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union is demanding an
independent audit of the Province’s woodland resources.
Regional Vice-President Cec Makowski says the industry is
facing a crisis, especially in Northwestern Ontario.
Makowski says the forestry sector can’t trust Ministry of Natural
Resources data and forecasts.
He claims the MNR is intentionally under-estimating softwood supplies
in the Dryden area to justify Mill closures.
A CEP study, using Government data, showed that 39% of the
allowable area for harvest is not being used from Thunder Bay to the
Manitoba border.
