Change in Forest Tenure System Proposed

The McGuinty Government is proposing sweeping changes to the way wood cutting licences are awarded.
Effectively, the big forestry giants would have their current licences scrapped and they’d have to start over.
Northern Development Minister Michael Gravelle admits the changes are bold.
He notes it would put all firms, large or small, on equal footing.
The biggest change would be the creation of Local Forest Management Corporations which will control the system in each region.
Public hearings on the proposed changes start in Thunder Bay, with a session in Dryden on May 20th.
