Changes to West Nile Surveillance Program

The Northwestern Health Unit will not be collecting dead birds for testing of West Nile this Summer.
Environmental Health Officer Al Mathers says mosquito trapping will continue in Dryden, Kenora and Fort Frances starting in early July.
Mathers says early indication points to another quiet west nile season.
He adds they will continue promoting the need to take precautions against West Nile Virus.
Meantime, Mathers says the Health Unit will ramp up the surveillance of Lime disease.
Mathers notes there are changes to that program as well.
He says they will be collecting ticks that have been attached to humans and not ticks taken from wildlife and pets.
