The province’s chief coroner is going to be investigating fire deaths in area First Nations over the last ten years.
Dr. Dirk Huyer says he will be convening what he calls a “Coroner’s Table”, comprised of people who will examine the fatalities in detail.
Dr. Huyer says the group will include officials from Indigenous Services Canada, First Nations communities impacted by fire deaths and the Fire Marshall.
He says they hope they can gain a better understanding of why such deaths occured in a bid to make future changes.
Dr. Huyer believes the group can complete its work within the year.
