Opposition critics are questioning a report that says
daycare and kindergarten should be combined into a single full-day program.
The report by Charles Pascal calls for full-day early learning programs for four-and-five-year-old’s and housing daycares inside schools.
Conservative Joyce Savoline says the province could face a
serious problem trying to implement the system by September, 2010.
N-D-P Leader Andrea Horvath says the plan is a good one but
doesn’t have faith that the government can implement it.
Pascal says children who have attended full-day programs before Grade 1 fare better academically and have better social skills.
Parents would have the option to leave their children in school from 7:30 a-m until 6 p-m; for a fee.
They would also have a choice on whether their kids would be
enrolled in a full or half-day of kindergarten, or nothing at all.
