Opportunity and belief.
That was the focus of the Hockey Hall of Fame acceptance speech from Chris Pronger Monday night.
Pronger took time to thank family and friends and everyone who helped him become one of the best defenceman in NHL history.
He started by reflecting back on his youth where Pronger said he was given the opportunity to begin the journey through Dryden Minor Hockey.
Pronger says he loved the experience and notes hockey was all he thought about growing up.
Pronger took time to thank High School Coach Jack McMaster who helped launch his career.
He says McMaster saw something in him and pushed him each and every day in practice to get better.
After talking about his time in Junior ‘B’ in Stratford and the OHL in Peterborough, where he thanked all of those who helped him, he shared his memories of his storied career in the NHL.
Pronger ended his speech by thanking his family.
Chris recognized older brother Sean for always watching his back during good times and bad times.
Chris says Sean made him tougher and stronger and most likely got him where he is today.
He adds his brother always pushed him to be better and noted he’s up on the stage in Toronto for both of them.
Chris thanked his Mom and Dad for letting him play the game and for making the sacrifices to help him achieve his dreams and goals.
