City Moving To Terminate Lease At Open Roads

Declining enrollment has prompted the City of Dryden to move towards ending the full-day childcare program at Open Roads School.
A final vote will be held on the matter on August 27th and Children’s Resource Centre Manager Vanessa Shepherd says a handful of families will be effected.
Staff are being re-located to other programs.
Shepherd says the closure is required to ensure that their programs remain financially viable.
The move would save the city nearly $17,000.
Shepherd says financial lobbying efforts will continue with the province to ensure additional child care centres don’t close and fees don’t increase.
There’s still considerable demand for the before and after school program at Open Roads and the public school board has agreed to allow the city to utilize some space free of charge.
