The City of Dryden is applying to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund for money to help fix up the recreation center.
The city is seeking $547,000.
Joel Allen is the acting Community Services manager and says the biggest project is modernizing the Ice Dog dressing room.
“This modernization project will give the Dryden Rec. Center a premier dressing room for hosting major events, as well as for the use by our anchor tenant and local user groups,” Allen explained to Dryden city council this week.
He puts the price tag for the dressing room at $450,000.
Allen adds that improvements to the Ice Dogs dressing room would not only benefit the hockey team.
“It’s for the community as a whole and local user groups benefit from that, and the city will benefit from that from being able to attract bigger investments through tournaments and other events.”
Allen adds that the money would also be used to repair the roof between the two arenas and a new furnace for the Pronger Arena.
The city would contribute $62,500 as its share of the project and local groups have committed to raise $75,000.
